PAIN CARE AND REPRODUCTIVE CARE ARE ONE IN THE SAME
TURNING GREEN
“..the most egregious medical practices are done in gynecology..”
This work from youarewithinthenorms, part of a series titled “Silence of the Womb,” initially published November 03, 2024, and shared Emily Ullrich’s traumatic personal account of receiving an IUD insertion, drawing a direct parallel between her experience and the historical gynecological torture associated with Dr. J. Marion Sims.
“..a systems failure to prioritize her safety..”
Ms. Ullrich highlights the pervasive issue within women’s healthcare where providers frequently lie entirely to patients and disregard women’s pain and trauma, citing years of her severe period pain being dismissed as “just part of being a woman.”
“..the principle of disregard..”
Her ordeal involved a pelvic pain specialist minimizing her concerns—even mocking her—before subjecting her to four brutal medical torture attempts at IUD insertion without adequate pain relief, resulting in the doctor finally puncturing her uterus before agreeing to sedation.
“..he punctured my uterus..”
Most significantly, the piece argues that the dismissal of women’s suffering is a profound injustice, insisting that pain care and reproductive care are one in the same.

Gynecological Torture: The IUD Pain of Emily Ullrich
“Silence of the womb is it. Some of THE MOST EGREGIOUS medical practices are done in gynecology, and they LIE entirely TO PATIENTS AND DISREGARD women’s pain and trauma. I could write an entire book just on the gynecological traumas I’ve endured.

But I’ll sum it up with my story of IUD insertion. After 20 years of period pain so bad, I would pass out and be told this was “just part of being a woman.” I finally saw a “Pelvic Pain Specialist.”

THE BRUTAL MEDICAL TORTURE OF EMILY ULLRICH

He wanted me to try the Mirena IUD. I expressed concern about the pain of insertion, but he laughed it off, telling me, “You like drugs too much!” I allowed myself to be abused and violated because this seemed to be the norm in gynecology. In his first attempt, the searing pain from my uterus spat the IUD right back out.
Second attempt, same thing, only this time, the nurse noticed I was “turning green,” so she offered me a trash can to vomit in.
“JUST A SMALL PINCH”

On the third attempt, tears streamed down my cheeks, and my uterus again spat the device immediately back out. On the forth attempt, he pressed so hard that he punctured my uterus.
This was not the “small pinch” of pain I was promised. This was absolute torture. Finally, since HE was having a hard time, the doctor suggested we do the procedure under sedation…as he should’ve in the first place.
Never again will I be able to trust a doctor who tells me that something will not hurt or that I’ll “just feel a small pinch.” If men had to have devices implanted through their urethras into their bladders, they would NEVER be treated with this disregard.”

2. Torture and beyond
complete disregard for the patient’s pain”
The provided text is an excerpt from a video transcript of the YouTube series “Convos with Angela.” In an interview with Dr. Dawn Mandeville, an experienced OBGYN, the discussion centers on a viral video highlighting the mistreatment of a Black patient in active labor by a nurse.
Dr. Mandeville emphasizes the nurse’s “complete disregard for the patient’s pain” and lack of urgency, explaining that the appropriate protocol is to immediately triage actively laboring patients to dedicated “hot rooms,” regardless of having complete demographic information.
Dr. Mandeville identifies systemic bias, both overt and implicit, as a primary driver of this crisis, manifesting as delayed care, dismissiveness of patient pain, and failures in communication.
The discussion underscores the critical need for patient advocacy, the implementation of standardized medical protocols to override individual biases, and direct, transparent communication from providers about the heightened risks Black patients face.
3. Epstein’s Torture of Underage Girls and Gynecological Medical Abuses are they one in the same???
Dr. Mandeville emphasizes the nurse’s “complete disregard for the patient’s pain” and lack of urgency, explaining that the appropriate protocol is to immediately triage actively laboring patients to dedicated “hot rooms,” regardless of having complete demographic information.
The core findings indicate that Black women are at least three times more likely to die within the first year of childbirth than their white counterparts, a statistic that persists across all socioeconomic and educational levels.
This specific incident is used to illustrate the broader and often more subtle issue of systemic bias and racism in maternal healthcare, noting that Black women are tragically three times more likely to die within a year of delivery, irrespective of their socioeconomic status.
Finally, the doctor stresses the vital need for patients to be their own advocates and to bring a support person to challenge implicit biases that can lead to delayed or inadequate care.
