But I’ll sum it up with my story of IUD insertion. After 20 years of period pain so bad, I would pass out and be told this was “just part of being a woman.” I finally saw a “Pelvic Pain Specialist.”
THE BRUTAL MEDICAL TORTURE OF EMILY ULLRICH
He wanted me to try the Mirena IUD. I expressed concern about the pain of insertion, but he laughed it off, telling me, “You like drugs too much!” I allowed myself to be abused and violated because this seemed to be the norm in gynecology. In his first attempt, the searing pain from my uterus spat the IUD right back out.
Second attempt, same thing, only this time, the nurse noticed I was “turning green,” so she offered me a trash can to vomit in.
“JUST A SMALL PINCH”
On the third attempt, tears streamed down my cheeks, and my uterus again spat the device immediately back out. On the forth attempt, he pressed so hard that he punctured my uterus.
This was not the “small pinch” of pain I was promised. This was absolute torture. Finally, since HE was having a hard time, the doctor suggested we do the procedure under sedation…as he should’ve in the first place.
Never again will I be able to trust a doctor who tells me that something will not hurt or that I’ll “just feel a small pinch.” If men had to have devices implanted through their urethras into their bladders, they would NEVER be treated with this disregard.”
