Community Stunned as Dr. Charles Szyman’s Suicide Sparks Questions about Government Expert’s Role in Trial

Charles R. Szyman, MD

A cloud of disbelief hangs over the community as the tragic suicide of Dr. Charles Szyman exposes a painful nexus of falsehoods and its devastating aftermath. The heart-wrenching end of the once-respected physician’s life has led many to question the role of government expert witness Dr. Timothy King, whose testimony bore an uncanny connection to Dr. Szyman’s descent into darkness

Dr. Szyman, a dedicated pain specialist who had served his community for decades, was caught in the merciless crossfire of a legal battle. Accused of over-prescribing narcotic medications, he faced a trial where the scales of justice seemed unbalanced. Central to the prosecution’s case was the testimony of Dr. Timothy King, a supposed expert in the field. His words painted a stark picture of Dr. Szyman as a reckless dispenser of drugs rather than a compassionate healer.

“On Kolodny and Prop…, the DOJ has adopted eugenics or Neo-Eugenics. As David SteinMD put it, they’ve resurrected and repackaged the old eugenic philosophy so that history doesn’t repeat itself, but it, sure enough, rhymes.….@marktwain.”

However, the trial took an unexpected turn when the jury found Dr. Szyman not guilty on all charges. The legal victory, however, came at a heavy price. Friends and family report that the trial significantly affected Dr. Szyman’s mental and emotional well-being.

DR. TIMOTHY E. KING, MD In court at the 2017 Szyman trial, King said the following:
“Basically, we’re looking to see if we’ve got that gold standard. Is the pain improved?
Is the quality of life — that’s “QOL” — the quality of life improved? Is function improved? Function is the gold standard. Is there any indication that actionable, meaningful, objective function is improved?”

The barrage of accusations, the uncertainty of the trial, and the shattering of his professional reputation became insurmountable burdens. Tragically, the weight of these burdens led Dr. Szyman to take his own life by hanging himself.

The news of his death has sent shockwaves through the community, eliciting a range of emotions from grief to outrage.  As the community grapples with the aftermath, the spotlight has turned to Dr. Timothy King, whose testimony may have played a pivotal role in the trajectory of events.

The term “eugenics” was coined by Sir Francis Galton in his 1883 book Inquiries into Human Faculty and its Development and derived from the Greek “eu-genes”, meaning “well-born.” There, Galton defines eugenics as “the science of improving stock—not only by judicious mating but whatever tends to give the more suitable races or strains of blood a better chance of prevailing over the less suitable than they otherwise would have had.”

Some have voiced their belief that his assertions contributed to the downward spiral of a man dedicated to healing and compassion.

Critics have labeled Dr. King’s actions as having “blood on his hands,” suggesting that his false testimony may have indirectly contributed to the tragic end of a man’s life.

In court at the 2017 Szyman trial, King said the following:
“Basically, we’re looking to see if we’ve got that gold standard. Is the pain improved?

Is the quality of life — that’s “QOL” — the quality of life improved? Is function improved? Function is the gold standard. Is there any indication that actionable, meaningful, objective function is improved?”

Dr Joseph Mengele, MD Ugly Laws and Eugenics
First, although disability is the sole preoccupation in neither legislative domain, it is explicit in and central to both. In the earlier ugly laws, this is primarily in terms of “certain persons” being disease-ridden and physically deformed; in the later sterilization legislation, disability is explicit primarily as feeble-mindedness and mental deficiency or defectiveness.

King falsely claims that his unproven and personal standards are the unquestioned standard of care for opioid pain management.

In fact, King has a patent that he claims can determine if a prescriber has violated the Controlled Substances Act.

Undoubtedly, King has used his flawed patent to help convict other doctors.
This is not how chronic disease is treated for conditions such as DM, HTN, depression, etc.

If the patient is stable, they’re generally kept on the same medications for a condition that is not expected to improve.

Dr. Szyman, a dedicated pain specialist who had served his community for decades, was caught in the merciless crossfire of a legal battle. Accused of over-prescribing narcotic medications, he faced a trial where the scales of justice seemed unbalanced.

While the legal intricacies of the case are still being dissected, the moral implications of bearing false witness have ignited passionate discussions about ethics, accountability, and the power of expert testimony.

Joseph Mengele, MD According to the Eugenic Archives, ” The term “dehumanization” was coined in the early 19th century and has acquired a wide range of meanings since then. These include treating certain people in degrading ways (for instance, merely as means to an end), referring to them as non-human animals or as inanimate objects, denying that they possess distinctively human characteristics, treating them in degrading ways that cause them to experience themselves as less than human, denying that they have mental states, conceiving of other people as less human than oneself, conceiving of them as inanimate objects, and conceiving of them as subhuman animals.”

It’s worth noting that expert witnesses bear a tremendous responsibility when providing testimony in legal proceedings. Their credibility can shape the course of a trial, impacting lives and reputations in profound ways.

Dr. King’s role in this case serves as a sobering reminder of the potential consequences of inaccurate or misleading testimony.

As the community mourns the loss of Dr. Szyman and reflects on the events that led to this heartbreaking outcome, questions linger about the justice system’s role in safeguarding the truth.

TIMOTHY KING-DAUBERT EXHIBIT

The tragedy underscores the importance of integrity, transparency, and ethical conduct within legal proceedings – a collective duty that extends to the legal professionals and experts who testify.   Dr. Szyman was highly respected professionally and personally until a series of events unfolded that would forever tarnish his reputation.

Mr.Jacobs said that Dr. Szyman failed in his duty to protect his patients when he prescribed them ever-increasing doses of narcotics without understanding the source of the patient’s pain and properly monitoring their use.

Department of Justice District Attorneys Laura Schulteis Kwaterski and Matthew L. Jacobs were driven by their ambition to secure convictions at any cost. They were determined to prove themselves as formidable prosecutors, but their methods were far from ethical.

In June, 2016, he was indicted for 19 counts of drug trafficking for allegedly over-prescribing narcotic medications and pleaded “not guilty” to each of the charges. The indictment stated the usual misuse of the exemption phrase in the Controlled Substance Act—that Dr. Szyman “knowingly and intentionally distributed unlawfully a controlled substance outside of his professional practice and not for a legitimate purpose”.

Frustrated by their lack of progress, they stumbled upon an opportunity they thought would lead them to the long-awaited victory.

With King’s false testimony in hand, Kwaterski and Jacobs launched an aggressive prosecution against Dr. Szyman. The trial became a spectacle, as the community watched in disbelief as a once-revered figure was dragged through the mud.

Normalcy and disabled people
Lennard Davis (1995) contends that normalcy is linked to the very meaning of disability (meaning an impairment). Disabled people are a group linked to the part of the bell curve that indicates that one underperforms in relation to the normal distribution of some ability. Indeed, the predominantly employed medical narrative of ‘disability’ views disabilities as defects, problems inherent to the person, something not normal. A cure for the ‘disability’ of the person or person-to-be is aimed at ‘improving’ toward the species-typical norm. Management of ‘disability’ has led to the sterilization of people perceived as underperforming the cognitive, mental and some physical ability norms in order to prevent a hereditary increase in people underperforming in these abilities (negative eugenics).

Despite lacking concrete evidence, the prosecutors skillfully weaved King’s fabricated story into a seemingly cohesive narrative. The media frenzy surrounding the trial further fueled the public’s skepticism of Dr. Szyman’s innocence.

As the trial progressed, Dr. Szyman’s defense team fought tooth and nail to expose the inconsistencies in King’s testimony. They presented a mountain of evidence demonstrating Dr. Szyman’s complete lack of criminality.

However, Kwaterski and Jacobs relentlessly pursued a conviction, using every tactic in their arsenal to undermine the defense’s case.  The jury’s deliberation was tense, but ultimately, reason prevailed. The jurors saw through the web of lies spun by the prosecutors and found Dr. Szyman not guilty on all charges.

The courtroom erupted in applause as the truth triumphed over manipulation. Dr. Szyman was acquitted, his name cleared, and his reputation in tatters.

However, the damage had already been done. The relentless smear campaign orchestrated by Kwaterski and Jacobs had taken its toll on Dr. Szyman’s mental and emotional well-being. The weight of the false accusations, the public scrutiny, and the betrayal of trust had pushed him to the brink. Just four months after his acquittal, Dr. Szyman tragically took his own life by hanging himself, leaving behind a devastated community and a legacy forever marred by the prosecutors’ unethical tactics.

Sadly, the truth came too late for Dr. Szyman.

Dr. Charles R. Szyman was a respected physician known for his dedication to his patients and his contributions to medical research. He had built a life that was the envy of many, with a loving family and a thriving medical practice. His reputation was pristine, untainted by any hint of wrongdoing.

As the opioid epidemic escalated, it caught the attention of prosecutors Laura Schulteis Kwaterski and Matthew L Jacobs. Desperate to restore calm and find someone to hold accountable, they started looking for a scapegoat. Their attention landed on Dr. Szyman, whose position and knowledge made him an easy target.

Sadly, the truth came too late for Dr. Szyman. The weight of the false accusations, the loss of his reputation, and the prospect of a life in prison became unbearable. Despite his eventual acquittal through the tireless efforts of his legal team, the damage had been done. Dr. Szyman’s spirit was broken, and he saw no way out of the darkness that had engulfed his life. Tragically, he took his own life by hanging himself.  The aftermath was a mixture of shock, guilt, and anger.

The community realized the grave injustice that had been committed against a man who had dedicated his life to healing others. Prosecutors Laura Schulteis Kwaterski and Matthew L Jacobs faced intense scrutiny for their role in the travesty of justice. The weight of their decisions and the false testimony they relied upon had dire consequences that could never be undone.

In the end,

In the end, the story of Dr. Charles R. Szyman served as a haunting reminder of the power of false accusations and the devastating effects they can have on innocent lives. It prompted a reevaluation of the justice system and the importance of evidence-based proceedings, lest another tragedy like this occur in the future.

  1. I am a pain patient for over 25yrs. I have Adhesive Arachnoiditis and have for over 10 yrs. I had the same pain management for the last 25yrs.I am ashamed that my country lets us suffer knowing we have no way out. No one wants to treat me. Now that our elective government has turned a blind eye to the sick and handicapped. My opinion is that our government would rather I die than be given any pain relief.
