THOUSANDS OF CHRONIC PAIN PATIENTS SUFFER AND HAVE DIED AS THE RESULT OF OVERZEALOUS PROSECUTORS INTERFERRING WITH MEDICAL CARE: CLICK HERE

Ruan is Dead

Dr. Lonnie Joseph Parker spent decades treating patients in Texarkana, Arkansas. He is now branded a felon, staring down more than seven years in federal prison. His crime? Prescribing medication to people in pain.

A man in a tan outfit walks between two other men, one in a police uniform and another in casual clothing, outside a building.

The story is both simple and devastating. Parker ran a modest clinic where patients shuffled in carrying their aches, their injuries, their addictions. Some days he prescribed oxycodone, other days promethazine with codeine. His records weren’t pristine, his examinations weren’t textbook. He was a country doctor practicing medicine in the way thousands of others do across America: imperfectly, with compassion, and under the impossible shadow of the opioid panic.

THE MEDICAL BOARD MISCONDUCT: A PHYSICIAN’S ORDEAL

“A significant factor exacerbating this overreach is the mindset of prosecutors working for medical boards. These individuals often demonstrate a one-track mentality, relentlessly pursuing validation for their preconceived conclusions while disregarding any evidence that contradicts their stance.

This approach signifies a departure from the impartial fact-finding process expected in legal environments, contributing to the devastating ruin of physicians’ careers. Any objection to their predetermined verdict is labeled as “lack of remorse” on the physician’s part.

This huge desire by the prosecutor to prove that the physician is “at wrong” often has nothing to do with “the truth” but only for them to be “at right” for any reason, and in this particular case, claimed to be closer to her retirement, not wanting to “shake any trees. Physicians, trained to focus on patient care rather than legal defense, are ill-equipped to confront such powerful adversaries. Even when attorneys are hired, they frequently encounter insurmountable challenges in opposing medical boards that operate under erroneous and unchecked authority.

The boards’ pressure often compels physicians to settle disputes rather than mount strong legal defenses. This is a tactic that undermines the principles of justice and due process.”

Attorneys General Urge Insurers to Combat Opioid Epidemic

“Medical Boards Under Fire Unpacking the Backlash Against Alleged Power Abuse and Systemic Corruption.”

A coalition of State Attorneys General penned a letter to America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) in 2017, urging them to revise payment and coverage policies to favor non-opioid pain management for chronic, non-cancer pain. The letter highlights the severe impact of the opioid epidemic, citing millions of Americans addicted to prescription opioids and an annual economic cost of $78.5 billion.

The Attorneys General emphasize that over-prescription of opioids, despite evidence of their ineffectiveness for long-term chronic pain, is a significant contributing factor.

They propose that insurance companies play a crucial role by incentivizing alternative treatments like physical therapy and acupuncture, which are often more effective and cost-efficient, ultimately benefiting patients, society, and insurers alike.
