BACKGROUND
After more than 26 years of service to FAMU, 10 years with the Veterans’ Administration Medical Centers, and 10 years of service to The Tampa General Hospital and Centro Espanol Hospital Pharmacy Services, Tampa native Dr. John J. Scrivens, Jr. is retiring. Concluding a beautiful retirement celebration coordinated by his wife, Molbert, and friends and family at the University of South Florida Gibbons Alumni Center, Dr. Scrivens bid his professional farewell to over 200 family, friends, and guests.
The longtime pharmacist-educator does not plan to just quietly go fishing and golfing (even though some of that is on his agenda), but plans to share some of his experiences helping young people establish their own paths to growth and independence, especially those from disadvantaged and underrepresented groups. He will also remain active in his support of FAMU and its College of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Scrivens has established the John J. Scrivens, Jr. Scholarship Fund to provide resources that increase pharmacy students’ participation and training in community health education.
