For Dr. Rifai, the recognition marks the culmination of nearly three decades of commitment to psychiatry, medicine, and public service. A longtime member of the American Psychiatric Association for close to 30 years, he previously served as an Area 3 representative for Members in Training to the APA Assembly, represented the National Institute of Mental Health at the Washington Psychiatric Society, and became a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association in 2009.

He also served as President of the Lehigh Valley Psychiatric Society, where he advocated for community-based psychiatric care, physician leadership, and access to treatment.
