A SERIOUS OUTBREAK OF SPREADSHEET MEDICINE SYNDROME
The “Prescription Predictor” uses an algorithm to detect alleged fraud in physician prescribing practices. A primary concern is the system’s use in courtrooms, where it is presented as objective evidence to prosecute doctors, raising fears of wrongful convictions and the undermining of patient-centered care. The central argument is that the system is unreliable, unscientific, and potentially harmful because it reduces complex medical judgments to simplistic “spreadsheet science” and “checkbox judgments,” ignoring the messy subjectivity of real medical practice and the individualized needs of chronic pain patients. Critics emphasize the system’s lack of scientific rigor and validation, noting it has not undergone rigorous peer review and relies on Dr. King’s subjective standards, which are disguised as “objective criteria.”

Critique of King’s Forensic System for Prescription Fraud Detection
Dr. Timothy King’s patent-pending AI system, often called the “Prescription Predictor,” is designed to detect prescription fraud by physicians. Critics dismiss the system as “spreadsheet science” because it reduces complex medical decisions and the subjective nature of chronic pain to basic data points and symbols like ticks and crosses. A common concern across sources is the system’s lack of scientific rigor, transparency, and independent validation, with many arguing it depends on Dr. King’s personal standards rather than established medical consensus. Additionally, the sources warn that using this unvalidated algorithm in courtrooms to assist prosecutors could undermine patient-centered care, physician autonomy, and fair legal process by possibly resulting in unjust judgments against doctors.

THE CHILLING EFFECT
The original text focused on the November 2021 republished story of Katherine Rosenberg-Douglas, a Chicago Tribune reporter who broke her back and faced interrogations and denial of her prescribed narcotic opioid pain relief by pharmacists who felt “uncomfortable.” This PowerPoint presentation discusses the profound chilling effect of pharmacists withholding legitimate pain medication, emphasizing the concept of “Corresponding Responsibility” and the dangers it poses to patients, especially those suffering from chronic pain. The text highlights the story of Dr. Mark Ibsen, a Montana physician who stopped prescribing opioids due to fear after a colleague’s conviction, leading tragically to the suicides of six of his former chronic pain patients. Experts argue that the current regulatory environment, including the use of flawed guidelines like the Morphine Milligram Equivalent (MME) and the actions of the DEA and medical boards, is based upon unscientific spreadsheet medicine.

National Campaign to Protect People in Pain

October 12, 2025
This announcement is for all members of the National Campaign to Protect People in Pain and for moderators and administrators of the Advocates’ Meeting House, for dissemination to tens of thousands of patients, caregivers, clinicians, newsroom editors and government bureaucrats. It will be disseminated on Veterans’ Day, in social media venues serving a registered readership of over two million healthcare professionals in multiple fields.

This posting provides three ground-breaking resources that patients, doctors, and lawyers can and should use to educate themselves and others. For their participation in the development of these resources, several people should be acknowledged with great thanks:

- Jamie Sanchez and Forrest Tennant, MD, respectively, administrator and principal subject matter expert on “Doc Toks” on Facebook. In a time of great personal challenges, Jamie has prioritized publication of the 50-minute presentation linked below.
- Mark Ibsen MD and Neil Anand MD, my co-authors in a deeply referenced paper that reveals the frauds embedded in NarxCare ™ as implemented by multiple US State Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs.
- Norman Clement, Pharmacist, Dentist, advocate, and creator of the online series “You Are Within the Norms”, for his reduction of the paper by Ibsen, Anand, and myself to a 12-minute audio conversation between two AI-based professional “voices”. These voices accurately summarize the paper in terms understandable to anyone with a fourth-grade education in English – including the government bureaucrats who even now continue to lie about the real causes of America’s “opioid crisis”.
