IS IT BECAUSE!
The United States has the largest number of incarcerated individuals in the world.
Is this because of the criminal behavior of Its citizens?
Is it because of unfair laws?
Does racism play a role?
While all of these might be issues, I believe it’s due to the power of the prison lobby.
All across America small towns exist because of prisons. Without them, the town would not exist.
There is a tremendous amount of pressure on lawmakers who represent these towns to keep prisons viable.
EVEN PRESIDENT BIDEN
Even though President Biden issued a directive to close these prisons, they continue to bypass the directive. Illegal drugs and non-violent individuals account for more than 50 percent of inmates.
Even with the ever-increasing deaths from drug overdoses, legislators are reluctant to legalize drugs.
Is this because they believe that legalizing drugs would cause an increase in addiction?
Is it because prisons would be closed and thereby affect the economy of towns they represent?
Are the lives of addicted individuals worth the elimination of hundreds of prisons and thousands of jobs?
As a nation, we need to do an unbiased analysis of our criminal justice system and enact laws that are thoughtful and in the best interests of all Americans.
