GUEST WALTER F. WRENN, MD., AND LESLY POMPY, MD

Walter F. Wrenn III., MD writes:

“This is interesting. I have always believed that my case had nothing to do with the death of my patient on opiate pain medication. Cocaine was found in her system.

LESLY POMPY, MD ANESTHESIOLOGIST, MONROE MICHIGAN

However, I had a running battle with probation officers opposed to my treatment of Suboxone patients all of whom finished their probationary period without relapse or rearrest. They were also on benzodiazepines which were prescribed by me and therefore a legal medication. I had a 60 percent 5-year survival rate of patients

I treated and was always at the 275 patient limit. I also wrote a paper ( not published) about using the injectable form of buprenorphine ( Sublocade) on all patients with opiate addiction who were incarcerated to empty the prisons all over the US.

DR. WALTER WRENN III MD – PHILADELPHIA, PA OMEGA PSI PHI

I am not worried about the diversion of Suboxone as it’s on used by opiate-addicted individuals to prevent withdrawal. Many of the patients I first treated came to me after purchasing Suboxone illegally. Also, you can’t overdose on Suboxone.

It has a ceiling effect and once the opiate receptors are saturated the remaining circulating Suboxone is metabolized by the liver. Remember Suboxone has a, 36 hour half-life.”
